Cub Scouts

We have jumped into the world of Cub Scouts around here.  We went on our first family hike with the local pack a few weeks ago.  Jeff is the Den Leader for Jonathan's age group, and since this is the first time in Cub Scouts for both of them, they are learning together.  The Den Meetings are here, which is a little complicated, but nice that we don't have to go anywhere and I can put the younger kids to bed at their normal time.  Jeff has been traveling a lot, but he has managed to be home on meeting nights.  Here is Jonathan posting with our new flag...he still doesn't like having his picture taken.

Figuring Things Out

Jonathan spends quite a bit of time studying this book, The Way Things Work, by David Macaulay.  This particular time, he was trying to figure out how to build a lock out of Lego Technic pieces for his door.  It turned out to be too complicated, but the schemes he came up with were pretty interesting!

Worth Remembering!

Two quotes, two kids, on the same day.  Not because they're typical quotes, but because they're not...

She does love putting on her dress-up clothes, but once they're on, she's more concerned about reading a book than playing princess.

All to Himself

Benjamin doesn't usually get to take a bath alone, but this time he did.  You can see how excited he was!  And yes, he fell and skinned his chin a little bit, on the way down between a chair and ottoman.  It's a very accident-prone age!

Yogurt

The younger kids got a treat the other day... Some fully-sweetened yogurt, which they don't usually get.  They were pretty excited!

Lego Storage Update

Here's a little update about our Lego Storage System that I built a few months ago.  We LOVE it!  I'm so thankful to have been able to work off of an already-existing idea.  Thank you, Pinterest!  Keeping our Legos organized by color has been perfect for Jonathan and for our family.  They're so much easier to keep up with and clean up.  And Jonathan has gotten so much pleasure out of building things out of his imagination because he can find the pieces easily.

 (He still doesn't want his picture taken while he's building, though.)

Another thing he has enjoyed lately is http://letsbuilditagain.com, where he has been able to browse old Lego directions and build...well, whatever he wants.  Here is an airport fire truck that he built using directions from the site.  Next to it is his own Lego airplane that hadn't been built in awhile, but he went back to his old directions and could build it because he could find the pieces.  And yes, as you can see, it's on fire and the fire truck is taking care of that.  He requested that I take the picture exactly like this.  :).  I"m not sure how I carved out time to get the Lego table together, because I can't imagine doing that right now, but we're thankful to be enjoying it.
