Jonathan recently completed his second Pinewood Derby car and competition. It was mostly a father-son project, but Jeff snapped a couple pictures of Jonathan and me working on the finishing touches of his car. The design was all his, and he and Jeff did the whole project themselves. It didn't have a Lego driver like last year, but it did have Lego flames coming out the tailpipes, which were also weights to help it weigh almost 5 oz., the top limit.
Here he is, ready to go to the race. We figured that if he liked his car and enjoyed the race, it was a good thing. And he did! And let me link one more time to last year, because you really should note the dramatic difference in our boy's teeth!
Here I am with the "youngers," watching the event. We're in a much larger Cub Scout pack now, which makes for much more fun at big events. I enjoyed just showing up to the event rather than being surprised to be in charge of the awards. This is one of the many benefits of belonging to a much larger group.
A boy scout and an adult started the cars at the top of the ramp, and there was a computerized system at the bottom to tell how fast each car went and determine which car won the race and could continue on to the next round.

His car got 2nd in this part of the race. Overall, his car was near the top of the pack as far as speed went, and he made huge improvements over last year's design, which was great. Most of all, he enjoyed it, and I'm so glad.
