So, our baby is five.  I can't reflect on that too much without tears, so...moving right along.

In our family, five has been the traditional year for a bike - with training wheels - that eventually becomes a two-wheeler for a newly trained bike rider.  Jeff is an amazing Craigslist bike shopper, so much so that ALL of our kids' bikes have been purchased on Craigslist.  But this time, there was just nothing new and decent to be found, so we sprung for a new one...but still an economy model.

This was not on Benjamin's radar at all, so he was totally shocked to see it out there on the patio table!

His response to riding it out in the cold was a bit underwhelming.  But, since this is "not our first rodeo," we weren't worried about it.  We knew he would love it in warm weather.  And, since I am writing this post in April and backdating it, I can report that this kid is fearless, loves speed, and started riding it as a two-wheeler on his first try in March.  So, it was a well-timed gift despite the subdued response.

Benjamin's faraway relatives made sure he had gifts to open at breakfast, and he loved them.

He had to be a police officer all day long.

We had to get the tires rotated and some other routine stuff done, so this guy kept me safe.

Benjamin had decided months ago that for his birthday, he wanted to have breakfast with Great Grandma at Mimi's and order puppy dog pancakes.  So, weeks before his birthday, we called her and scheduled the breakfast date.  I thought it was very sweet.

Brunch together was fantastic...

and we had a special family birthday dinner together, too.  Happy birthday, sweet Benjamin!
